12 mos, 8 hrs/day

Grade 20, $18.63 hr

Start Date:  Immediately

 

Purpose Statement: 

The job of Transportation Dispatcher Assistant supports the educational process, with specific responsibilities for coordinating and assigning drivers to regularly scheduled routes, special excursions, and field trips; processing requests pertaining to routine and emergency issues; maintaining department records in accordance with mandated requirements; and coordinating assigned projects.

 

This job reports to the Director of Transportation.

 

Essential Functions: 

Assists in planning bus routes and schedules to ensure all routes are covered.

 

Collaborates with contracted charter buses for additional transportation needs (e.g. field trips, athletic events, etc.) to determine driver and equipment requirements to ensure adequate transportation coverage.

 

Coordinates buses and drivers for extracurricular activities (e.g., field trips, athletic events, etc.) to ensure transportation.

 

Dispatches drivers to meet the schedule demands.

 

Informs school personnel and parents of practices (e.g., rules, regulations, laws, procedures, etc.) to provide information for their follow-up action and/or proper procedures.

 

Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and/or records for

documenting activities, providing reliable information, and complying with administrative requirements.

 

Operates a two-way radio per FCC regulations for gathering and/or conveying information.

 

Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc., as required to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.

 

Processes various materials (e.g., field trip requests, route changes, etc.) to update and distribute information, authorizing action and/or complying with mandated requirements.

 

Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and/or staff to provide the necessary information, direction and/or resolution.

 

Schedules work assignments for bus drivers and bus aides to ensure the completion of transportation routes safely and in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.

 

Other Functions: 

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks, and there is a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to perform the job functions satisfactorily include operating two-way radio and county emergency radio; operating standard office equipment, including utilizing pertinent software applications; performing standard clerical procedures; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures; write routine documents and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include pertinent department policies and procedures, office practices and procedures, concepts of grammar and punctuation, first aid, and CPR.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule several activities, meetings, and/or events, gather, collate, and/or classify data, and consider many factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work independently with others in various circumstances, work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using various standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals, work with similar data types, and utilize job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines, and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job satisfactorily include adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working with detailed information/data; working with frequent interruption; maintaining a good rapport with employees,

students, parents, and the public.

 

Responsibility: 

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods, leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others, and utilizing resources from other work units that may be required to perform the job's functions. There are some opportunities to impact the organization’s services.

 

Work Environment: 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a typically clean and healthy environment.

 

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
