Purpose Statement

The Title I School Improvement Specialist is responsible for supporting Title I program initiatives.  The Specialist is also responsible for coaching, supporting, and guiding teachers in best practices for science, mathematics and ELA instruction. The position provides professional development through planned learning sessions and through the job-embedded practices of planning, modeling, and coaching teachers.

The Specialist reports to the Title Programs Coordinator.

 

Essential Functions

Leads the development and implementation of support for private school students residing in PVUSD Title I attendance areas that are enrolled throughout Metro Phoenix.

 

Provides a communication link between private schools and the district.

 

Understands and interprets assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform instructional decisions.

 

Provides instructional support for Title I teachers for successful student achievement in ELA, math, and science.

 

Provides support to administrators and teachers on the dissemination of curriculum related to district issues.

 

Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the school’s improvement plan and align student needs with Title I expenditures.

 

Collaborates regularly with supervisor, building administrators, other content curriculum specialists, and department leaders to address areas of greatest need, including development of curriculum and updating existing curriculum.

 

Analyzes data to determine benchmarks, establish goals, and monitor improvement in ELA, math, and science learning in Title I schools. Develops concrete steps to address identified needs.

 

Provides developmental assistance and resources for teachers to meet the varied learning needs of students.

Assists and supports staff (principals, classroom teachers, special education teachers, and ParaEducators) in providing effective instruction and improving student achievement.

 

Attends professional development and activities to improve knowledge of content, instructional strategies, coaching skills, and adult learning theory.

 

Attends district-level and ADE meetings and trainings.




Works with the Arizona Department of Education, other district curriculum specialists, and experts in the field to keep PVSchools at the forefront of instruction, curriculum alignment with standards, and assessment.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: analytical and critical thinking using computational techniques, with a focus on applying district, state and federal policies and regulations; operating standard computing equipment; performing standard searching and sorting techniques of digital information; preparing and maintaining accurate records; utilizing pertinent software applications; maintaining a strict and high level of confidentiality and ethics; being self-motivated and devoted; with excellent collaborative, organization and communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic numeracy, logic, statistics, including calculations using fractions, percents, probability, inference, and query language; read a variety of manuals, write documents using native and numerical languages following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: script, query, sequel, and programming logic.

ABILITY is required to schedule and coordinate activities; query and collate data; and use computational equipment, network services and software applications, job related equipment such as that used for photocopying, printing, labeling, and data copying. Flexibility is required to work and collaborate with others in a variety of time and socially sensitive circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. And significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

 

Experience:   Experience in a K-12 work environment

 

Education: Bachelor degree or higher, in Education, Management, or related area.
