Purpose Statement

 

The job of AVID Supervisor is done for the purpose/s of coordinating AVID program components and related activities; serving as a resource to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

 

This job reports to Director of Professional Development

 

Essential Functions 

Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, school sites personnel, AVID Center, postsecondary institutions, public agencies, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs and open communication.

 

Coordinates program components, support needs and material (e.g. data collection reports, staff development, site team conference, certification self study, AVID policies and AVID District Advisory Board, feeder pattern articulation meetings, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring program objectives are achieved within established guidelines and resources are effectively utilized.

 

Facilitates meetings, processes, AVID events, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff and implementing and/or maintaining programs and services.

 

Observes subject area teachers and AVID Coordinator/teacher at each site who have participated in AVID staff development at each site for the purpose of evaluating the implementation of instructional techniques and AVID program components.

 

Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. AVID Center workshops, inter and intra district committees, site team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to carry out their administrative responsibilities and enriching the program.

 

Prepares and maintains a wide variety of materials (e.g. assessment reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, articulation meeting notes, observation notes, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

 

Presents information on a variety of topics for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback, providing training and promoting support for the program.

 

Provides site support on a consistent basis for the purpose of enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.

 

Responds to issues and inquiries regarding program for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.

 

Visits each AVID site on a consistent schedule throughout the academic year for the purpose of coaching and observing AVID trained staff, meeting with site teams and administrators to facilitate progress towards goals identified in the Site Team plans and overall program objectives.

 

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; facilitating meetings; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; concepts of grammar and punctuation; practices of personnel administration; stages of child development; issues relating to at-risk youths; age appropriate activities; methods of instruction and training.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; managing multiple projects; adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; setting priorities; building collaborative relationships; and working with frequent interruptions.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

 

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

 

Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

 

Education: Masters degree in job-related area.
