Purpose Statement

The job of IT Student Information Systems Specialist II is done for the purpose/s of assisting in the support of data bases related to student/teacher achievement and student/teacher records; deploying, installing, configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining student information systems; and coaching and training others.

 

This job reports to Director of Information Technology or Designee

 

Essential Functions

Assists in the school support of data bases related to student/teacher achievement and students/teacher records, procured and internally developed, for the purpose of providing technical assistance, advice and support.

 

Supports Curriculum & Instruction including:  Course catalog and Data Systems, Credit/Transcript and Grading verification, Graduation planning and course requests, Open enrollment, Student Teacher Course Connection, AELAS/AzMERIT and AzEDS initiatives.

 

Assumes the principle role and/or serves on a team with other personnel throughout the district for the purpose of embracing technical & logistical directions from/to school personnel.

 

Communicates with AZ Department of Education (ADE) (e.g. new programs, data reports, etc.) and PV administrative personnel for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to PV school personnel.

 

Deploys installs, configures, troubleshoots and maintains student information systems for the purpose of providing technical assistance, advice and support to PV school personnel.

 

Develops and prepares user materials (e.g. quarterly training sessions with district and site staff, etc.) for the purpose of providing instruction and reference to PV school personnel.

 

Identifies issues related to the student information systems and software applications for the purpose of resolving PV school personnel user problems.

 

Implements student information systems (e.g. procured and internally developed, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users of PV school personnel.

 

Instructs PV school Personnel on student information systems (e.g. district and site staff, students, community, department staff, district administration office staff and administrators, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper and efficient use of system.

 

Interacts with students, administrators, employees, department staff, vendors, contractors and community for the purpose of cultivating supportive and informative relationships.

 

Responds to user requests for a variety of data needs (e.g. assessment information, attendance, enrollment, grades, course completion status, course credits, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.

 

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; classifying data and/or information; using pertinent software applications.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: current generation office software; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; communicating with persons with diverse technical knowledge and skills; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; work in flexible shifts, including but not limited to evenings, nights, weekends and holidays; accuracy and attention to detail; meeting deadlines and schedules.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 90% sitting, 5% walking, and 5% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

 

Experience:  Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Education:    High school diploma or equivalent.
