PVOnline Summer School Electives Teacher 

  • Summer School dates are: June 3rd to July 12th, 2019
  • Teachers assist with in-person final exams: July 8th to July 12th, 2019
  • Professional meetings and responsibilities will occur before the summer school start date
  • FLAT FEE (up to 20 students:  $1,300.00; 21 - 40 students: $2,600.00; over 40 students:  $2,600.00 plus $65/per additional student)
    • May teach multiple courses: Intro to Business; Psychology; Career Development; Spanish; Intro to Art; History of American Music; Intro to Music Tech; PE (Life concepts & Fitness Power).  MUST BE APPROPRIATELY CERTIFIED FOR SPANISH, ART, MUSIC.  PE REQUIRES A PE ENDORSEMENT.

 

Purpose Statement

The job of the PVOnline Summer School Teacher - High School is done for the purpose/s of providing instruction to students enrolled in the Paradise Valley Unified School District's online summer school program.  Teachers monitor student engagement and progress in online courses; deliver targeted instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborate with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or behavioral issues; and respond to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.   

The ratio of student to teacher for one section will be 40 actively participating students:1 teacher.

 

This job reports to PVOnline Summer School Assistant Principal

 

Essential Functions

 

Teaches mulitple courses from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned course schedule;

 

Assesses student performance and assigns grades for completed assignments;

 

Monitors and motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the online educational process;

 

Maintains communication with students and parents about summer school program information;

 

Maintains and/or retrieves accurate student records to include academic progress and actual student log in time;

 

Apprises students and parents of student academic progress and performance;

 

Provides appropriate and timely feedback on student work;

 

Utilizes, maintains and stay current with the knowledge and skills of the online learning management systems and resources, and student information systems;

 

Implements best practices and strategies in online instruction to advance and improve student performance;

 

Provides appropriate accommodations and modifications to curriculum and instruction based on individual student need;

 

Participates in professional development activities for the purpose of improving online instruction and program delivery;

 

Works a flexible schedule, sometimes requiring being online in the evening or on weekends, or in person as approved by the summer school administrator;

 

Counsels students or refers student to appropriate school personnel for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.

 

Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners for the purpose of providing an effective program that addressing individual student requirements.

 

Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

 

Assists with proctoring in-person final exams.  

 

Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. district, staff, departmental, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

 

Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

 

Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

 

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

 

Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

 

Other Functions

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; and behavioral management strategies; assessment instruments and techniques; methods of instruction.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

 

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 20% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

 

Experience:  Online teaching related experience is desired.

Education:    Bachelors degree in job-related area.
