Purpose Statement
The job of Language Acquisition Translator (Spanish/English) is done for the purpose/s of supporting the instructional program with specific responsibilities for providing complex and responsible translations of various documents into Spanish or English; and serving as an interpreter when needed.
This job reports to Director of Language Acquisition
Essential Functions
Arranges interpreters for a variety of school functions (e.g. parent conferences, SST's, special events, etc.) for the purpose of directing services in an efficient and timely manner.
Interprets in meetings and activities for the purpose of providing communication between individuals in Spanish and/or English.
Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic documents and records for the purpose of providing up to date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Prepares a variety of written translations from English to Spanish and/or Spanish to English for the purpose of providing communication between school and parents.
Records public announcements in Spanish (e.g. school closures, lock downs, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents and students.
Researches a wide variety of subjects for the purpose of rendering the most appropriate cultural and linguistic translations.
Screens district staff members who translate and/or interpret at different school sites for the purpose of ensuring compliance with OCR and other federal and state regulations.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: protocol in confidential translation/interpretation; excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax and idiomatic usage of verbal and written English and Spanish; the use of appropriate cultural communications.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 90% sitting, 10% walking, and 0% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education: Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.
