Purpose Statement

The job of Mandarin Chinese Teacher – Elemenary/Middle/High School is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as an middle/high school teacher with specific responsibilities for developing student success in Mandarin Chinese language development; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.  The Mandarin Chinese teacher provides instruction to students enrolled in four of PVUSD’s seven middle schools and at least one high school, using a hybrid model that includes face-to-face instruction, regular integration of TelePresence, and pvONLINE curricular resources. Ongoing communication with students, parents and high school personnel is required to ensure that each student has the maximum opportunity to successfully complete his/her instructional program.

 

This job reports to Site Administrator

 

Essential Functions

Teach content from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned course schedule;

 

Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the online educational process;

 

Maintain communication with students and parents to support instruction;

 

Maintain and/or retrieve accurate student records to include academic progress and actual student log in time;

 

Monitor and motivate students relative to progress for assigned course work;

 

Apprise students, parents and home school personnel of student academic performance;

 

Utilize, maintain and stay current with the knowledge and skills of the online learning management systems and resources, and student information systems;

 

Implement strategies to advance and improve student performance;

 

Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications to student programs based on individual student need;

 

Participate in professional development activities for the purpose of improving online instruction and program delivery;

 

Work a flexible schedule that includes regularly scheduled times at each of the schools and being online in the evening or on weekends;

 

Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, coordinating schedules, and attending meetings;

 

Assist with proctoring state assessments, midterms and final exams at predetermined by the District.

 

Other Functions

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

 

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

 

Experience:  - Demonstrated successful teaching experience.

                      - Knowledge of the district developed pvONLINE curriculum and student

                        management system.

                      - Knowledge of TelePresence and its effective integration into classroom

                         Instruction.

                      - Extensive knowledge of computers, networks, web applications, and

                        technology-infused instruction.

 

Education:    Bachelors degree in job-related area.
